Who this is for

Agents already in the field

  • You're writing deals this month. Not planning to. You have merchants in the pipeline and a residual check with your name on it.
  • You keep running into Square. Restaurants, salons, retail shops that ask for it by name, and right now you either walk away or write it as a one-off with no support.
  • You want real support, not a knowledge base. You know how to sell. What you want is someone who picks up when a Square-specific question comes up while the merchant is standing there, and who'll run the demo with you if the deal calls for it.
  • You want to become a Square reseller without surrendering your book. Ownership stays with you. That's in writing.

If you're new to merchant services, this isn't the program for you yet. No hard feelings.

The core of the program

White-glove support behind every deal

Most Square reseller programs hand you a referral link and a help center, then disappear. Wayve is built the other way. You get a branded link that's yours, a support team that picks up, and people who will get on the call and run the demo when a deal needs it. We support our agents the way you support your merchants.

Your own custom-branded Square link

Your logo. Your name. Your link. Every merchant you send through it is tied to you from the first click, so there's no question about whose deal it is. Put it on your card, your site, your email signature. It looks like your product because, to the merchant, it is.

Need help selling it? We'll run the demo

Three-way call, screen share, walkthrough of the Square dashboard, whatever the deal needs. When a restaurant owner asks how tip pooling works across three terminals, or a salon wants to see the booking flow before committing, we get on the call and show them. You run the relationship. We bring the Square depth.

Live help while you're standing in the store

Merchant says yes on a Tuesday afternoon. You're at the counter with the application half done and a question about how multi-location reporting works for their second store. You call. We pick up. You finish the application and the merchant signs before you leave. That's the standard, not the exception.

The backend is handled

Application follow-up, activation, hardware orders, risk documentation, deactivation appeals, residual reporting. You don't chase Square. We do. Your job is to find the merchant and close it; everything after the signature is ours to carry.

Placement

Which merchants fit Square, and which don't

Square is excellent for the merchants it was built for and mediocre for the ones it wasn't. In a Square POS reseller program, knowing the difference before you pitch is what separates a clean book from a churny one.

Restaurants and food service

Strong fit

Square for Restaurants handles table management, coursing, modifiers, kitchen display, online ordering and tip management natively. Quick-service, fast-casual, cafés, food trucks and single-location full-service restaurants are the sweet spot. Multi-location groups up to a handful of stores work well. Large groups with complex enterprise reporting needs sometimes outgrow it.

Retail

Strong fit

Square for Retail covers inventory, vendor management, purchase orders, barcode scanning and unified in-store plus online stock. Boutiques, specialty shops, convenience stores and small chains board cleanly. Retailers with tens of thousands of SKUs or heavy wholesale B2B invoicing tend to need something built for that, and you should say so.

Salons, barbershops, spas

Strong fit

Square Appointments is the quiet winner in the lineup. Native online booking, client profiles, no-show protection with card on file, staff calendars, commission tracking and the ability for each stylist to run their own book inside one account. This vertical is often the easiest Square close you'll make, because the owner has usually already tried to bolt scheduling onto a processor that doesn't have it.

Franchises and multi-location

Depends

Square's multi-location tools are genuinely good: shared item libraries, location-level reporting, team permissions across stores. Franchisees running a few locations are a solid fit. Franchise systems that mandate a specific POS from corporate are not, no matter how much the franchisee likes Square. Ask that question first.

E-commerce and online

Depends

Square Online is strong for merchants who sell both in-store and online and want one inventory and one customer list. It's the right call for a shop adding web sales. Pure-play e-commerce brands at scale generally want a dedicated platform, and Square's online tooling isn't where they'll land. Be honest with them and they'll trust you on the next one.

Where Square struggles

Weak fit

Very high monthly volume where flat-rate pricing stops making sense. Complex B2B with net terms, Level 2/3 data and invoicing at scale. Large average tickets where a percentage-based model costs the merchant real money. Verticals Square's terms of service exclude. If a merchant lives here, don't force Square on them. Our support team will tell you the same thing.

The product

The Square product stack you're actually selling

You're not selling a terminal. You're selling an operating system the merchant runs the business on. That's why they stay.

Square POS

The core. Point of sale, payments, item library, basic inventory, customer directory, reporting and team management, free at the base tier. Vertical editions for Restaurants, Retail and Appointments sit on top of it.

Square Online

Website builder and online ordering synced to the same catalog and inventory as the POS. Pickup, delivery, shipping, QR ordering at the table. One item list, one customer base, two channels.

Square Banking

Checking, savings and loans built around the merchant's processing. Instant access to sales, automatic savings folders, and loan offers underwritten on their own volume. Once a merchant banks where they process, moving is a project they won't start.

Square Payroll

Payroll that pulls timecards and tips straight from the POS. For a restaurant or salon, this eliminates a spreadsheet and a second vendor. It's also another reason the merchant isn't going anywhere.

Afterpay

Buy-now-pay-later at checkout, in-store and online, owned by Block. Retailers and higher-ticket service businesses use it to lift average ticket. You enable it in the dashboard; there's nothing to integrate.

Cash App Pay

Accept payment from Cash App's large consumer base with a scan. For merchants with a younger customer mix, it's a differentiator the competing terminal on the counter doesn't have.

Why this matters to your residual. Every product a merchant adopts beyond basic processing raises the cost of leaving. A merchant on POS alone can be poached with a rate sheet. A merchant on POS, Online, Banking and Payroll would have to rebuild their business to switch. Stickiness is what makes a Square residual last, and the ecosystem is where stickiness comes from. Sell the stack, not the rate.

Merchant pricing

Square's pricing, plainly

Square prices the merchant, not you. Three ways to place a deal.

Rack rate

2.6% + 15¢

per in-person transaction

Square's published flat rate. No monthly fee, no PCI, no statement fee, no ETF, no contract. It's the default, and for most small merchants it's the one they say yes to.

Cash discount

4%

passed to the card-paying customer

Moves the cost of acceptance off the merchant's P&L. For the merchant who balks at paying any rate at all, this is usually the conversation that closes.

Custom pricing

Negotiated

for high-volume merchants

Above a certain annual volume, Square will review the account for custom rates. That's Square's process, not ours. We know when a merchant qualifies and how to position it.

Rates shown are Square's and current as of this writing; Square can change them on its own schedule. Live schedule at squareup.com/pricing. Online, keyed and invoice transactions carry their own rates.

Process

How boarding actually works, step by step

Square boarding is faster than traditional underwriting, but it isn't instant and it isn't magic. Here's the real sequence.

  1. You qualify the merchant

Business type, locations, rough monthly volume, current setup, what they're frustrated with. You've done this a thousand times. We'll join the call if it's a bigger account or an unfamiliar vertical.

  2. You submit through your branded link

The merchant signs up through your custom-branded Square link, with your logo on it, so the account is tied to you from the start. This is the step that attaches the residual to your name. Send them to the front door of squareup.com instead and it's just a Square account; nobody gets paid on it.

  3. Square auto-approves

Square is a payfac. There's no underwriting queue, no MID application, no waiting on a bank. The merchant signs up and the account is live, usually in minutes. That's the single biggest reason Square closes faster than anything else you sell. On the rare occasion Square asks for a document after activation, we handle it with the merchant.

  4. Hardware ships

Square hardware is ordered through the program and ships directly to the merchant, typically within a few business days. Readers are fast; Register and Terminal bundles take slightly longer. For a merchant with a hard go-live date, order hardware the day you submit.

  5. Setup and go-live

Item library, taxes, team members, tipping, receipts, online ordering if applicable. For a simple merchant this is an hour. For a restaurant with a full menu and modifiers it's a working session, and we'll run it with you on a screen share. First transaction is the finish line.

  6. You stay the point of contact

After go-live, the merchant calls you, not a 1-800 number. You bring us in when you need Square-level depth. That relationship is what makes the merchant yours in practice, not just on paper.

Your onboarding

What onboarding with Wayve looks like, week one

No 30-day ramp. If you're already writing deals, you should be submitting Square deals inside a week.

  1. Day 1

    Paperwork

Agent agreement, W-9, direct deposit. You read the ownership and residual language before you sign, and you ask every question you've got. We'd rather lose you here than surprise you later.

  2. Day 1–2

    Intro call and branded link

The first call is about your book: what you're writing, what's stalled, which merchants are Square candidates right now. You send us your logo and we build your custom-branded Square link. You leave with a target list and a link to send them to.

  3. Day 2–3

    Access and tools

Your branded link goes live. Hardware ordering, reporting login, the training material, and the direct line to our team. Not a portal with forty tabs. The handful of things you'll actually use.

  4. This week

    Square training

We walk you through placement, objections and the verticals that close. You've been selling for a decade, so it's not Sales 101; it's the Square-specific stuff you don't know yet. After that, we're a call away whenever you need us.

  5. By day 7

    First deal submitted

We're on that first one with you, start to finish, demo included if you want it. By the second or third you'll know when you need us and when you don't.

Training

Square training included. Not sold.

Training built around Square specifically, not generic merchant services material you already know. And after the training, you have ongoing access to our team for whatever comes up.

  • Square placement. Which merchants fit, which don't, and how to tell in the first five minutes of a conversation.
  • Square objections. "Flat rate is expensive at my volume." "I can sign up myself." "I heard Square holds funds." The real answers, and when the objection is actually correct.
  • Square verticals. Restaurants, Retail and Appointments: the features that close, the setup that retains, the mistakes that churn.
  • Selling the ecosystem. Banking, Payroll, Online and Afterpay as retention tools, not add-on upsells.
  • Running a downline. For agents building a team inside a merchant services agent program: recruiting, structure and keeping your people productive.

Included at no additional cost for you and every agent in your downline. There is no upgraded tier where the useful material lives, and there's no cutoff on when you can call us.

FAQ

Questions experienced agents ask about becoming a Square authorized reseller

Who owns the book when I become a Square reseller with Wayve?

You do. Merchants you board are your merchants, residuals attach to you, and the ownership language is in the agent agreement before you sign anything. If you've been burned by vague "portfolio" clauses elsewhere, read ours first and compare. We'll send it before the call if you ask.

Who boards the merchant?

You source the merchant and send them through your custom-branded Square link. Our support team handles the application, activation follow-up, hardware order and setup support. You remain the merchant's point of contact throughout. The merchant never gets handed to a call center they've never spoken to.

How are residuals reported and paid?

Monthly, with merchant-level reporting you can reconcile against your own records. You'll see each merchant's processing and what it generated for you. Splits are covered on your intro call, not published on a web page. If someone's advertising a number online, ask them what's behind it.

How fast are merchants approved on Square?

Instantly, in most cases. Square is a payfac and auto-approves. The merchant signs up and can take a payment in the same session; there's no underwriting queue, no MID application, no waiting on a bank. If Square asks for a document after activation, our team handles it with the merchant so you're not chasing paperwork.

What happens if Square deactivates a merchant?

It happens, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. Our support team works the case with you: gathering what Square asks for, pursuing reinstatement where it's possible, and keeping the merchant informed. If Square's decision is final, we talk through the merchant's options together rather than leaving you to deliver the news alone.

Can I bring my existing merchants?

Merchants on other processors, yes, if they're a fit for Square. We'll review the list with you and prioritize the ones where the move actually benefits the merchant, because a forced migration churns. One honest limit: a merchant who's already on Square can't be re-signed through the program, so there's nothing to earn on them. Existing residuals from other relationships are yours and unaffected by joining.

Do I need to be an ISO already?

No. Independent 1099 agents and small ISOs both join. What matters is that you're writing deals now and know the business. If you have a registered ISO and a team, the structure accommodates that; if you're a solo agent with a strong book, it accommodates that too.

Is there a cost to join the Square reseller program?

There's no fee to join, and no charge for training, support or your custom-branded Square link. Any terms that affect your economics are in the agreement and discussed on the call before you commit to anything. You will not find a surprise in month three.

What equipment options exist?

The full Square hardware line: Reader for contactless and chip, Terminal, Stand for iPad, Register, Handheld and Kiosk, plus compatible receipt printers, cash drawers, barcode scanners and kitchen display hardware. Hardware is ordered through the program and ships to the merchant. Square's hardware is priced by Square and is sometimes offered with financing on their end.

Does my downline get access?

Yes. Agents under you get the same training and the same ongoing access to our team. Your downline structure and how it's compensated are discussed on your call, in writing, before anyone signs.

What markets are supported?

The program currently supports merchants in the United States. Square operates in several other countries, but Wayve's Square reseller program is US-focused today. If that changes, agents hear it first.

What happens if I stop selling?

Your residuals on active merchants continue under the terms of the agreement. Any minimum-activity or vesting language is in writing, and you read it before you sign. We don't claw back a book because someone took a quarter off.

Wayve also supports merchants and situations outside Square's fit through its broader product set, which we can discuss if it's relevant to your book. This page is about Square, because that's what you came here for.
